This week's R+S features a collection of resources on board recruitment. Board Self-Assessments can also aid in board recruitment. Interested in an assessment? Explore assessment options for your organization, or consider a Board Support Program membership that includes a complimentary assessment.

Recruiting for Board Diversity — Without Disrespecting People of Color
If Your Board Looked Like Your Community
It's Time to Talk About...What Board Commitment to Equity Looks Like in This Moment
As we at BoardSource continue to urge the nonprofit sector to commit to action on diversifying its boards (a cause that has become even more important during the current national conversation on racial inequity), Jim Taylor shares his story of what went wrong in these two recruitment experiences and offers his perspective on what boards need to do differently to successfully recruit – and retain – people of color.
Senior leaders and board members at four organizations share how they moved board diversity from a ‘Problem to Solve’ to ‘Something to Practice.' They also share common hurdles, like defining your community and what it means for your board to be “representative” and how to overcome them.
There is no question that the COVID-19 pandemic is having a disproportionate impact on communities of color. But this fact prompts a much more difficult question for nonprofit boards to consider in this moment: “What can boards do in the near-term to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the vulnerable communities their organizations serve?” Or, to put it another way: “How can nonprofit boards effectively prioritize equity in a moment like this?”
Board self-assessment is a process whose objective is to help the board improve its own work. Resistance to evaluation is often tied to fear of negative judgment, apprehension about the process and ultimate consequences, and uneasiness about often inevitable change. But boards must change to continue to do their valuable work. This resource helps you manage resistance to board self-assessments.
Passageways is giving all BoardSource members free access to its virtual board management software, OnBoard, until August 31. If you are still trying to figure out the best platform to use for your now-virtual board meetings, this is a great opportunity to try one of the most popular options out there.
